Jean Hynes is chief executive officer and managing partner for Wellington Management, one of the world’s largest independent investment management firms. In July 2021, she became the fifth CEO since Wellington formed its private partnership and the first woman to hold the role.


Jean oversees more than 3,000 employees in 19 offices across North America, Europe, and APAC. She and her management team drive the firm’s strategy and are accountable for its execution. As one of the firm’s three managing partners, she is responsible for governance of the Wellington Management partnership. 


Jean joined Wellington Management after graduating from Wellesley College (1991), where she earned a BA in economics. During her tenure at the firm, she has researched the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries and held numerous roles, including global industry analyst and leader of the health care sector research team. From 2013 – 2024, she served as portfolio manager for the firm’s Health Care Team, including the Vanguard Health Care Fund, one of the world’s largest dedicated health care funds. 


Jean is the recipient of several industry awards, including Forbes 50 Over 50, Barron’s 100 Most Influential Women in US Finance, 100 Women in Finance’s North American Industry Leadership Award, and The Hedge Fund Journal’s 50 Leading Women in Hedge Funds. She is a global speaker and has presented at the Milken Global Institute, SALT Conference, Bloomberg Invest, and the AIMA Australia Annual Forum. She has been a guest on CNBC, Bloomberg TV, the Capital Allocators podcast, and Goldman Sachs Presents: Insights from Great Investors. She was featured in Morgan Stanley’s Exceptional Leaders and JP Morgan’s Women on the Move series.


Jean is a CFA charterholder and member of the CFA Institute and CFA Society Boston. She is a member of the Investment Committee at Wellesley College, Notre Dame’s Wall Street Leadership Committee, and the Global Business Council. In 2022, she was appointed to the board of directors for the Massachusetts Competitive Partnership. Additionally, she has been a guest lecturer on investments at MIT and Notre Dame.
