A Mission Born from Revolution

The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph was originally founded in Lyon, France following the French Revolution. Today, this is our mission:

Fontbonne, sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston, is an independent, Catholic early college for young women. Fontbonne fosters Gospel values and educational excellence. This inclusive community embraces diversity in many forms. Through the values of respect, responsibility, reconciliation, and reverence, Fontbonne promotes growth in spirituality, scholarship, and leadership of young women in the changing world.

Remarkable Girls

Our student comes to us from communities across Greater Boston and throughout the South Shore. She is a graduate of public middle schools, charter schools, independent schools, international schools, and Catholic schools. She is a transfer from other high schools, a transplant  from other states, and a visitor from other countries. No matter her background or her heritage, she is remarkable.

Early College

Like Academy or College Preparatory or Country Day, Early College is a category of school. Like these other categories, it can mean different things for different schools. What Early College means at Fontbonne is that we are intentionally designing and sustaining a student-centered learning environment that is collegiate in (1) curriculum, (2) pedagogy, (3) culture, and (4) student life experience. Our Early College emphasis will enable us to programmatically maximize your 11th and 12th Grader’s ability to attain transferable college credit while cultivating those distinct characteristics, attributes, and skills she would have otherwise acquired during her freshman or sophomore year in college.

Academics

Through Fontbonne’s holistic approach to educating the whole person, our Early College (EC) program begins with 7th grade, where our students are given essential skills, setting them up for success in high school.  Our curriculum in 9th and 10th grades focuses on enhancing this foundation with exposure to seminar-style discussions, independent learning, and other methods necessary for success in our accelerated academic program. In 11th and 12th grade, students may take advantage of our dual enrollment relationships and college-level courses thanks to our established partnerships with local institutions like Regis College, Stonehill College, and UMASS Boston. Our EC emphasis enables each Fontbonne student the ability to attain transferable college credit while cultivating those distinct characteristics, attributes, and skills she would not have acquired until her first years in college.

Faculty & Staff

The backbone of our students’ intellectual development and success is our faculty and staff. Expert and student-centered, they passionately invest themselves in the spiritual, emotional, physical, and social well-being of your daughter.

The Experience

Cultivating a vibrant campus life and inclusive student experience is part of what makes our school so very special. Visitors remark how warmly welcomed and genuinely valued they feel.

Every day, we encourage each girl to test her limits and try new things outside our learning spaces. From clubs to co-curricular activities to championship athletics teams, the breadth of our students’ experiences is worthy of their brilliant diversity.
